It occurs to me that this phrase may have fallen out of use, but given a post I’ve seen going around on hair styles for masc folks that have trouble finding anything but short, white hair styles for folks like them, I wanted to mention Long Haired Butches (LHB), studs, and mascs are very much a part of our community!

For butches (esp butches of color) and studs out there who don’t prefer short hair: being a long haired butch doesn’t make you any less of a butch or stud than butches and studs who prefer their hair short. Honoring that your cultural norms around what constitutes a masculine hair style are different than Western white standards doesn’t revoke your masculine lesbian/sapphic card. These identities are more than just aesthetics, and certainly a short haircut alone does not a butch or stud make.

LHBs are just as crucial to our community in how you embody your identity as butches and studs who wear their hair short.
